Workshop „Advances and Challenges of AI"

The Academia Europaea's Informatics Section, with the support of the Wrocław Hub of Academia Europaea, is organizing the next "Advances and Challenges of AI" workshop, to be held on November 16–17, 2026, in the historic center of Wrocław. Particular interest is directed toward issues related to the use of artificial intelligence for scientific discovery and support for mathematical proofs, as well as its applications in digital twins, software engineering, cybersecurity and system vulnerability analysis, and the management of edge systems.

Abstract

This talk explores several emerging technologies that are shaping 6G wireless networks and beyond. It discusses how cell-free architectures and decentralized processing can improve network performance and scalability, how semantic communication and over-the-air computation can enable efficient task-oriented information exchange, and how Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) can transform wireless networks into distributed sensing platforms. The role of digital twins in autonomous network optimization and management is also highlighted.

Opening Lecture at Peking University's International Graduate Summer School on Low-Carbon Computing

Professor Erol Gelenbe will give an invited lecture at the International Graduate Summer School on Intelligent Optimisation for Low-Carbon Computing Service Systems, to be held at Peking University in Beijing from 1st to 3rd August 2026. The program is hosted by Peking University and organized by the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics under the leadership of Professor Jie Song, Dean of the School.

Abstract

Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) formulate the solution of partial differential equations as residual minimization problems over neural network parameterizations. Although highly flexible, optimization of PINNs using modern variants of Stochastic Gradient Descent algorithms is expensive. On the other hand, iterative computation of PINN parameterization using the Gauss-Newton method suffers from convergence difficulties, dense Jacobian structures, and poor conditioning that limit the effectiveness of second-order optimization methods.

Abstract

Electric vehicle charging stations are often constrained by the number of available chargers and waiting spaces. As demand increases, users may experience waiting, blocking, or abandonment, which can reduce the quality of service. This project develops a continuous-time Markov chain model for evaluating the performance of a finite-capacity EV charging station with Erlang-2 charging service and phase-type customer impatience.
