Photovoltaic installation with energy storage for the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Chemical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences

IICh PAN, together with its partner IITiS PAN, is implementing project No. FESL.10.06-IZ.01-02H8/23, which aims to build a photovoltaic installation with energy storage for the needs of both Institutes.

Thanks to the planned activities, as early as the end of 2024, a photovoltaic installation with a capacity of at least 44 kWp and a projected energy production of about 41 MWh per year will be built on the territory shared by the Institutes, together with an energy storage facility adapted to the needs of the installation. This will make it possible to replace part of the energy drawn by both Institutes from the electricity grid with locally generated energy from a renewable source.

The main benefits of the investment are:

Reducing the costs of both Institutes associated with the purchase and distribution of electricity. The resulting savings will make it possible to maintain the high level of research conducted by scientists working here and provide flexibility in developing new research topics.
Improving the quality of the environment and quality of life by reducing emissions of such harmful substances as sulfur dioxide ( by about 21 kg/year), nitrogen oxides (by about 21 kg/year) , carbon monoxide (by about 10 kg/year) and total dust (by about 1 kg/year).Mitigating climate change by avoiding emissions of about 29 tons of CO2 equivalent/year.
The project is implemented within the framework of the regional program European Funds for Silesia 2021-2027, priority FESL 10 European Funds for Transformation, activity FESL 10.06 Development of distributed energy based on renewable energy sources.

The project funding agreement was signed on June 18, 2024.

Value of the project: PLN 415,160

Amount of European Funds contribution: PLN 311,370

The amount of the state budget contribution: PLN 41,516

The amount of the Institutes' own contribution: PLN 62,274
